Japan’s Policy (2024) – Recruiting Immigrant Workers

• Labour migration policy helps meet labour market needs that cannot be met domestically.
• Recruitment driven by Japanese employers, not government selection.
• Specified Skilled Worker Programme (SSWP) introduced in 2019 for trades qualifications.
• SSWP has two tiers; Tier 2 allows family reunification and permanent residency.
• Candidates must pass skills test or complete TITP/SSWP in the same sector.
